Saturday morning lacked the summer temperatures and sunshine that marked last year’s St. Patrick’s Day, but a little cold was no match for the nearly 500 individuals who hit the pavement in the annual Hornell YMCA Run for the Shamrock 5K Run and Walk.

The 2013 edition of the event featured a total of 485 participants, 12 more than last year.

A pair of Hornell track and field standouts, Trevor Stiles and Wade Cone, finished one-two. Stiles was the first to cross the finish line in 18:12, while Cone followed 17 seconds later.

Dansville native Chyne Hoag was third in 18:48. A pair of Alfred-Almond Eagles, John Mormino and Carlos McInnes, completed the top-five overall finishers, as both were credited with a time of 18:57.

Darren Fanton was the final runner to come in under 20 minutes, finishing sixth overall in 19:02. Arkport’s Reilly McHale was seventh (20:13), and Jesse Harper was eighth (20:20). Jamie Fleischman of Naples was ninth (20:23), while Dansville’s James Leach rounded out the top-10 in 20:30. Christopher Hunt, of Chicago, was 11th (20:36) and Hornell’s Mike Guarglia was 12th (20:41).

Wayland’s Shannon Zigenfus was the top women’s finisher in the walk, posting a time of 34:58. Garrett Burys won the men’s walk in 31:13.

Aside from the overall winners, the run was divided into seven different divisions based upon age and gender. On the men’s side, division titles went to Hornell’s Benjamin Kemnitzer (14&under), Cone (15-17), Stiles (18-29), Fanton (30-39), Fleischman (40-49), Mike DeGaetano (50-59) and Tom Mulligan (60&over).
