Cloudless conditions assisted artists in commencing colorful compositions.

About eight young artists, plus a few adults, gathered up and down Main Street businesses Aug. 7 for Dansville’s second monthly “First Tuesday Chalk Walk,” an initiative conceived by business owners Jill Kalmar of Clockworks Wine and Liquor and Salome Farraro of Tony’s Pizzeria.

“I’m thrilled,” Farraro said Tuesday. “It just makes downtown Dansville fun.”

Becca Slack and Kaitlyn Chan, who were the casual chalk artists on Main Street earlier this summer whose work gave Farraro and Kalmar the inspiration for an organized monthly chalk walk, were making colorful art again Tuesday in front of Sylor Imaging and Tony’s Pizzeria.

“It puts more spirit into the town,” Slack said. After people saw their artwork the first time, “it brought families and friends and people to join together to make the town and the street look bright and colorful.”

Pam Soscia of One29 Main, said that this is a good community project for Dansville’s youth during the summer.

Another chalk walk is scheduled for Sept. 4. Information and sign-up sheets may be picked up at Tony’s Pizzeria. Interested participants should sign up by Aug. 31 so that arrangements with businesses can be made in a timely manner.
