A house fire Tuesday (Sept. 2) afternoon on Old Bald Hill Road (Canadice area) resulted in a total loss, reportedly displacing a mother and her three children.

Twelve fire companies responded including Mayfield, Perkinsville, Wayland, Lima, Richmond, Hemlock, Springwater, Dansville, Avon, Conesus, among them. Because of the location of the house, water had to be pumped from ponds into waiting tanker trucks.

One source said that firefighters, many who did not finish until after 8 p.m., were plagued at times by swarms of bees. Route 15 A was closed for hours and traffic rerouted over Old Bald Hill.

County fire investigators are looking for a cause.
