After an undefeated regular season, Keshequa began what it hopes will be a perfect postseason Friday night in Nunda.

Keshequa (16-0-1) entered the Class C sectionals as the No. 2 seed behind Naples (16-1-0). The Indians had a bye in the first round and hosted Honeoye following the Bulldogs' 3-0 win Tuesday over Harley-Allendale-Columbia.

But Friday night was the end for Honeoye (7-11-0) as Keshequa came away with a 9-0 shutout win.

"Last year we had the idea that if we came every night and we played like we are capable of playing, we're going to be fine, and we're talking that same way this year," Keshequa coach Pete Goho said, who has high expectations for this year's team. "The girls come ready to play. They have a good shot at getting where they went to last year."

Keshequa junior Arial Wood started the scoring for the Indians in the 10th minute with an assist from Haley Russell. Seven minutes later, it was sophomore Leigh Swartzfager again assisted by Russell. Shannon Cortese added two goals, first in the 24th minute assisted by junior Lindsay Piraino and again two minutes later unassisted. After assisting on the first two goals of the night Russell scored in the 30th minute off a feed from goalkeeper Alex Flint. Five minutes later, Flint and Russell reversed the setup for Russell's third assist on the night. Shannon Gordinier wrapped up the seven-goal first half in the 37th minute with an unassisted score. After intermission, Keshequa added two more goals. Wood scored unassisted in the first minute and Russell scored her second goal on an assist from Piraino.

Goho said scoring slowed down in the second half as several junior varsity players came off the bench for some sectional experience. Junior Shelby Smith saw her first few minutes of play for the season after recovering from a torn ACL she suffered last spring.

In the box, Flint played all 80 minutes and had 9 saves. Sarah Gray had 10 saves for Honeoye.

The Indians advance to play third-seeded Kendall (13-3-1) Thursday night at Perry.

In the 2011 season, Keshequa advanced through sectionals and regionals and reached the state semifinals. From last year's team only three names are missing from this year's roster, leaving 14 players who took the team through last year's playoffs.

"Most of them have been on varsity for at least three years," Goho said. "So they've been to three straight sectional finals in three straight years. Hopefully it's four this year."
