Friday night was homecoming in Caledonia and Dansville was called upon to join the party. But the Mustangs didn't make it easy for the Red Raiders. Cal-Mum wound up with a 42-25 victory to earn their fourth victory in as many outings.
Dansville coach Terry Conway said, "I'm proud of the way we stood up to them. We could have gone in and been intimidated, but we made them put the ball on the turf a few times. We were physical with them and stayed right in there with them."
Caledonia-Mumford opened the scoring on their first possession with a 57-yard drive that was capped off with a Kyle Preston to Will VanAuken six-yard touchdown pass. Mike Nevinger busted in for the two-point conversion making it 8-0 at the 9:55 mark of the first period.
The Red Raiders fumbled the next possession and Dustin Dieter recovered it on the Cal-Mum 22-yard line. One play later he burst up the middle and rushed 22 yards for a touchdown. He booted the PAT to make it 8-7.
Cal-Mum came right back and Kurtis Haut's 44-yard run set Cal-Mum up for a 10-yard touchdown run by Haut. The Mustangs followed up the Red Raider score with a 68-yard drive that saw the horses convert on a fourth-and-1 at the Cal-Mum 23-yard line. The following play Cody Schwan lofted a touchdown pass to Gage Koch, who ran 22 yards to make the score 16-13.
Haut broke loose moments later on a 62-yard sprint to make is 23-13.
After Cal-Mum sealed Dansville deep in their own territory, the Mustangs had to punt from their own end zone. The kick fell dead at the Dansville 15. The Raiders were in the end zone on the next play when sophomore quarterback Kyle Preston went up top to Haut for a 15-yard scoring pass that ended the half 29-13.
Dansville started the third quarter with a bang when Jeff Sinclair returned the second half kick-off 85 yards for a touchdown, again making it a 10-point game.
Cal-Mum mounted a 74 yard drive that saw Preston sneak into the end zone from three yards out and took it to a 36-19 Raiders lead.
Cal-Mum's Terry James intercepted a Mustang pass that set up Nevinger's 37-yard touchdown scamper.
