 Three event highlights

1 It was balmy for December, which is likely why there seemed to be a larger and maybe a bit jollier crowd for this year's annual Winter in the Village festival on Saturday. A newly revamped schedule of events that included a full-day's worth of festivities, plus wider promotion, may have had something to do with the attendance as well.

2 During the day, the Dansville Post Office offered kids the chance to get those letters mailed out to Santa; Genesee Community College's Dansville Satellite Campus got on board with a host of events that included an open house, a dance performance and an art exhibit. Plus mini-cake decorating at Tasty Too cupcakes; DAHS museum open house and the craft sale inside the town hall was also successful.

3 In the evening, Santa made his entrance into town by lighting the trees in Church Park, then made his way to sit with children inside 171 Main Street, where donations were collected for good causes. Usual Main Street festivities included concerts in GVTA and Star Theatre, plus street performances by Dansville Dance Centre and the increasingly popular wine tasting tour. The return of horse-drawn wagon rides were also a hit. For photos and video of the evening events, go to dansvilleonline.com.

Heard about the event

"It was fantastic. This was the most well-thought-out one, and I think the best attended, too." Edgar Schmidt, Star Theatre
