Cranberry Township, Pa., -based Horizon Environmental Services mobilized to the former Pappas Dry Cleaners site Sept. 24 and began remedial work on the soil.
HES subcontractor, Binghamton-based J.N. Giammarino Construction, mobilized to the site on Oct. 1 and began installation of sheet pile, expected to be complete by Friday.
Once the sheet pile installation is complete, HES will commence the excavation of approximately 6,783 tons of PCE contaminated soil and the removal of an underground storage tank at the north west corner of the site.
After the contaminated soil is removed and the excavation backfilled with clean fill, HES will restore the site using topsoil and grass seed. HES' estimate for the completion of this work is approximately two months.
