In three sentences, can you tell us how you became involved with the American Legion?

The same year I joined the Legion I joined the honor guard. I wanted to help. I wanted to be part of something good and something ever-present in Wayland. Also, veterens recognition past, present, future, so many people forget why we are free!

What do you like most about volunteering at the Legion?

Helping the community. That’s what we are here for. It’s hard to please everyone or get everything done, but we try.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to join the military?

First, thanks for going. Only one percent of Americans go in now. Second, get with good people when you’re in. They will take care of you. Third, enjoy it. The friends you have in there are different than the ones you have at home.
