Local and regional artists have a new place to display thier works on a monthly basis.

First Friday is the name of a monthly art opening at Macfadden Coffee Co., which, as the name suggests, occurs on the first Friday of the month.

Macfadden’s saw a good turnout on Sept. 7 for its second event. The first was by Chuck Little, and later a more informal display by Dansville Art Group.

Last Friday’s reception was for Wayland alumna Michelle Worden Meyers. She is displaying 16 pieces that vary in medium from pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, colored pencil and photography. She has recently begun painting on glassware.

Meyers began at a young age, and continued into high school and college. But like so many artists, she stepped away from the craft to concentrate on life’s ‘distractions,’ but came back to drawing again about 12 years ago.

“It was like riding a bicycle,” she said. Meyers started back up again with a portrait of her parents, and from there received requests to do more, as well as pet portraits. She has since expanded to nature and landscapes.

When asked about the turnout for its second event, Macfadden owner Jennifer Howard said it was, “fabulous” and that it is good to see people support local artists.

Macfadden’s is looking for more artists in any style or medium for upcoming months. October's slot is still available. Art will be displayed on the coffee shop’s walls. In addition to artwork, Macfadden's is also looking for musicians to perform acoustic sets.

Interested aritsts should stop in Macfadden’s and ask for Lon Ames, coffee shop manager and art show coordinator.
