The Dansville Public Library held two successful Summer Arts Workshops in August for children at the library. The workshops were sponsored by the Dansville Lions Club.
Dan Folts, a Dansville native and English teacher taught his fifth writing workshop at the Library. The event titled “Web Writers” was offered to children ages 9-15 years old. A total of six children wrote poetry, short stories and essays. The group toured local businesses and organizations in the community. They wrote stories about their experiences visiting each place. Folts helped the children showcase their talent by developing a web page to display their work. The children can access the page any time to add more literary works to it. At the end of the week, the children participated in a reading of their work to family and friends.
Going strong for the seventh year was acrylic artist’s Reneé Coombs’s art workshop. The program was open to children ages 5-13 to participate in. This year’s theme, "Quizzical Investigations" allowed children to expand on their creativity and imagination. Twelve children created many beautiful pieces of artwork including acrylic and watercolor paintings and pencil and marker drawings. Their creative efforts and talent were featured at an art show for their families and friends.
All of the children participating in the “Summer Arts at the Library” workshops received certificates of participation.
