Wayland Free Library received $1,500 from Arts Council of the Finger Lakes to support this year’s theme of “One World, Many Stories.”
During the course of the year, the library will host four local music groups for its Sunday Afternoon Concert series during the winter and early spring; three children’s theater performances, and a mask making workshop immediately preceding a performance by Bells and Motley’s Bawshou and the Dragon during which the children and their masks play roles in the play; and finally a four-session children’s digital photography workshop for children ages 10 and up.
The first concert was Feb. 13, featuring the Alfred University Chamber Singers. This is a select group of 25–30 students who performed a wide variety of music from classical to folk, to jazz and popular under the direction of Dr. Luanne Crosby.
The second concert scheduled for 3 p.m. March 13 features the Band of Brothers, a group of men whose love of American acoustic folk and ballad music was the original glue which drew these musical Christian artists together.
On April 17, the series will feature Hips ‘N Harmony, a female a capella group from SUNY Geneseo performing selections from pop to blues to jazz.
The final concert of the series plays Sunday, May 15, with the Genesee Valley Mountain Dulcimer Club, a group of musicians playing a variety of dulcimer instruments. After the performance players will show how to play these instruments to anyone who would like to try them out.
