| What do you do for a living? |
I make my living conducting choirs and orchestras, teaching music at Genesee Community College at Dansville and holding a position as pastoral musician (organist) at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Dansville. |
| What made you decide to become a musician? |
As a young boy, I auditioned for the boy choir at my church. Once I began singing sacred music and listening to great composers like Bach and Mozart, I started to think about becoming a musician. It was not until college, however, that I decided to dedicate myself to becoming a professional musician. |
| Are you involved in other areas of the community? |
I am the coordinator for the Dansville Music Committee, a group of local music lovers who are interested in planning and promoting concerts in Dansville. |
| Tell us about your involvement in China |
I travel to China twice a year to conduct the Shanghai International Choral League as well as to teach students at the Shanghai Normal University in the art of choral conducting. The mission of the SICL is to rehearse and perform great musical masterpieces from Western classical music. The choir is composed of about 70 singers from various Shanghai choirs (both Chinese as well as expat groups) and sings with a professional Chinese orchestra. |
