Way-Co Central School

The boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are taking orders for The Pink Airplane Toss vs. Cancer. Last year the teams generated over $1,400 for the American Cancer Society. The toss will take place on Jan. 27 during halftime of the boys’ game with Dansville. However this year, the game will be played in Dansville. Both communities are working together to make this the biggest toss ever. Airplanes are $1 as in the past, and you don’t have to be present to win some great prizes. Just purchase your plane from one of the basketball athletes and they will make every attempt to pilot your plane to victory. The 3-foot-long sub from Subway will return for the fourth year along with gift certificates to Acorn, Smitty’s, Wayland Food Mart and other great prizes.

It is hard to believe it is already time to begin planning, but the next Grad Bash meeting will be at 5 p.m. Feb. 9 in the middle school library. Volunteers are desperately needed to keep this program going. Please consider attending and getting involved in this event that has been running for well over 20 years.

The board of education will meet again on Monday, Feb. 6, and will continue 2012-13 budget discussions including a review of the general support budget and other outstanding issues. Regular business will also be conducted as well as routine presentations by members of the administrative team. The financial challenges require the district to take a drastic and new look at how everyday business is conducted. It is imperative for the board to hear community input during this phase of the planning in order to work toward solid budget proposal to put before the voters in May.
