Students are headed out for winter recess Monday through Friday, Feb. 20-24. Classes will resume on Feb. 27. The Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the LGI. This is a change in the usual Monday night meeting night to accommodate the Presidents’ Day holiday. Along with its regular business, the board will continue with budget discussions including the instructional budget. Discussions on this topic will also continue at the March 12 board meeting. Remember that the budget presentations are posted on the school website the morning following the board meeting. The presentations can be found on the business office website or from the link on the school’s homepage.

Elementary students will celebrate Read Across America week with special events including theme days and some wonderful books provided by the elementary schools. Students and their families are asked to read together and to enjoy the time improving skills and being in the company of one another. The PTSA will host a free family swim night 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 2. Celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday with movies and a cake. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult in the pool area. Non-swimmers must be accompanied by an adult in the water.

Wayland-Cohocton has had many middle and high school students participate in various All-County vocal and instrumental events over the last few weeks. Look for photos of the students in upcoming news from the school and on the website.

2009 Wayland-Cohocton graduate Chris Richey is making a name for himself in Nashville, where he is attending Belmont University studying music business. Chris Richey, the son of Brenda and Lee Richey of Wayland, has been selected to perform original songs in the iShowcase, sponsored by Universal Music Group, at the Hard Rock Café in Nashville, Tenn., on Saturday, Feb. 25. Chris will be performing a minimum of four songs under the stage name Xeroh. Along with this opportunity, he has participated as an extra in moves, appeared in a music video and is a back-up dance and choreographer for pop artist Lea Marie. For more information to see how you can show support to Chris, or in case you’re in Nashville that weekend and would like tickets, contact Brenda Richey.

Remember to check the school’s website for information. You can find upcoming events, building newsletters, student news, bulletins and updates from the superintendent and administrative team as well as athletic calendars, photos and more. If you have questions, can’t find something or would like to see something posted, please contact Melonie Coley at mcoley@wccsk12.org or 585-728-2211 ext. 3070 at the Wayland campus.
