Dansville Central School District will conduct a transportation safety audit after an incident Wednesday that injured two 8-year-old children and resulted in the school bus driver’s placement on administrative leave.
School district officials will meet Monday morning with Kathleen Furneaux of the Pupil Transportation Safety Institute, a Syracuse-based non-profit organization focused on transportation issues for schools nationwide.
Dansville Superintendent Paul Alioto said the district’s transportation safety audit will start Monday and continue through the week with the purpose of examining all transportation safety procedures, driver handbooks, training protocols and policies.
“Our children should feel safe in our school buses and their parents need to feel confident in our transportation department. The audit will confirm those procedures that work well and expose any safety deficits if they exist,” Alioto said.
Findings of the safety audit will be presented to the public in February.
