  • Cyclist seriously injured after striking deer

  • SPARTA — The Livingston County Sheriff's Office said a motorcyclist was seriously injured after his bike struck a deer early Friday morning.
    Michael Dann, 46, of West Sparta, was operating a motorcycle, heading north on Route 63 in Sparta, when he collided with a deer that ran into the roadway. Deputies said the accident took place at about 6:55 a.m.
    Dann, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and was unresponsive when a passing motorist found him. Dann was taken by a Life Net of NY helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was listed in guarded condition Saturday.
    Responding to the accident were Livingston County ALS and EMS, Dansville Fire and EMS and the Sparta Fire Department.
