  • Mustangs advance, meet Wellsville Lions in Round 2

  • No. 4 Dansville 11, No. 13 Wayland-Cohocton 4: The Eagles took a 4-3 advantage in the top of the fifth inning, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Dansville Mustangs won the baseball version of “The Backyard Brawl” 11-4 in the opening round of the Section V, Class B Tournament.
    Alex Wampole broke the 4-4 tie in the bottom of the fifth with a base-clearing double, making the score 7-4 in favor of Dansville (11-6). Wampole ended up with two hits. Cody Mark and Ethan Mapes paved the way with three hits apiece. Mapes had a triple and scored two runs.
    Noah Bacon and Curt Davis combined to pitch a four-hitter for Dansville.
    Dansville will now meet up with Wellsville on Friday back at the The Stables, more commonly known as Babcock Park. The Lions recorded a 7-3 victory over North-Rose Wolcott eight miles up the road at the Wayland-Cohocton Sports Complex in Wayland.
    Way-Co closes up shop at 7-13.
