CANASERAGA — A pedestrian was struck by a train and killed in Burns Thursday.
The accident, which claimed the life 24-year-old Aaron R. Tucker of Swain, remains under investigation.
Tucker was pronounced dead at the scene by Allegany County Coroner Ted Crowell and sent to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office for a post mortem examination.
The southbound train hit Tucker at approximately 6:30 p.m. near Route 15, authorities said.
Canaseraga ambulance and New York State Police out of the Amity barracks were among the first emergency personnel dispatched to the scene. A medical helicopter was initially called, and then canceled.
The Canaseraga and Birdsall fire departments closed access to both state Routes 15A and 15B, as an accident investigation began. Listeners monitoring fire and police radios heard authorities request that a camera be brought to the scene.
An accident reconstruction team from State Police-Batavia investigated.
Canaseraga Fire Chief Jeff Hoffman said he arrived at the same time as three EMTs.
"As soon as we found the location, we turned over the scene (to the state police), pulled out, and blocked the roadway," Hoffman said.
Hoffman said the train's engineer reported the accident.
