  • North Dansville fire extinguished

  • NORTH DANSVILLE — Firefighters from 10 departments responded to contain and extinguish a fire in the woods off of East Hill Road, Livingston County sheriff’s deputies announced Friday. The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received a call at around 1 p.m. about a forest fire. Firefighters from Dansville, Sparta, West Sparta, Springwater, Wayland, Perkinsville, Cohocton, Naples, Richmond and Atlanta responded. EMS personnel from Dansville and Canaseraga were on scene to assist. Also on scene was Livingston County EMS Coordinator Karen Dewar and Livingston County Fire Investigator Tom Magurie. Several members of the sheriff’s office were on scene for the investigation: Capt. Brian Applin; Investigators Joshua Monster and Gene Chichester; and Deputies Kevin Barrett, William Cartwright, Kevin Geer and Paul Ricotta. The New York State Police and the Dansville Police Department also assisted with the investigation. Investigation continued as of Friday and the New York state forest rangers have also been notified of the fire.
