Helen O. Dudley

WAYLAND — Helen O. Dudley, 92, passed away peacefully, Monday, March 31, 2014 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Helen was born October 24, 1921 in Olean, a daughter of Chester & Lucille (Fitch) Oakes. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree from SUNY Geneseo and her Master’s of Science degree from St. Bonaventure University. Helen taught science for over 30 years at Wayland Central School. Helen married Charles B. Dudley on August 2, 1952; he predeceased her on December 10, 2009.

Helen was a member of the Wayland Retired Teachers’ Assoc.; and enjoyed volunteering at local blood drives, for the election board and for Meals on Wheels at Noyes Hospital In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was also predeceased by her brothers, Robert Oakes, Dana Oakes and Kenneth Oakes, as well as her first husband, Herbert Karst; who was killed in action during World War Two.

Helen enjoyed traveling, cooking, throwing parties, playing the piano and crossword puzzles, but most of all she loved spending time with her family & friends.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Dawn (Jeff) Moores and Cheryl (Tom) Kessler; two grandchildren, Charlie & Sam Moores; many nieces, nephews & cousins.

Friends may call 5-8 pm Friday at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 West Naples St., Wayland, where funeral services will be held 11 am, Saturday. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Wayland.
