SPRINGWATER— Charles A. Sahrle, age 92, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris.
Charles was born June 24, 1921 in Sparta, a son of Carl Rowe and Mildred M. (Gilman) Sahrle. He was one of the few surviving veterans of World War II still living in Springwater; he served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1947. Charles worked for Foster Wheeler Corp starting in their Pattern Shop; he then became an “estimator”. He also drove truck for years for Armstrong Brothers in Wayland before becoming a member of the Carpenters Union Local #87 in Rochester, where he retired.
In addition to his parents, Charles was also predeceased by his wife, Helen (Blowers) Sahrle; his wife, Virginia (Milhollen) Sahrle; his son, Thomas Sahrle; his son-in-law, Jack Edmond and his step-son, David Milhollen.
Charles was a member of the IOOF in Wayland, where he was a former “Grand Noble”. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling; in both Wayland and Dansville leagues, and general carpentry work, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Charles is survived by his children, Gerry (Valary) Sahrle, Ronald (Linda) Sahrle, Millie Edmond, Bonnie Fink, Robert (Sue) Sahrle and Kenneth Sahrle; one daughter-in-law, Judith Sahrle; one step-daughter-in-law, Judith Milhollen; one sister, Dorothy Yohon; many grandchildren, great grandchildren; step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, half-brothers, half-sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call 1-3 p.m. Thursday at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 300 West Naples St., Wayland, where funeral services, with full military honors, will be held at 3 p.m. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Perkinsville.
