  • CANASERAGA The sun was shining with plenty of strength outside, but within the walls of the cozy Essential Club Free Library in Canaseraga Saturday afternoon, the smiles and laughs glowed every bit as brightly.
Dozens of community members representing every age group from toddlers to senior citizens stopped by the library for the annual open house and Arts and Craft Show.
For people who came to the library with an appetite, there was a bake sale and free refreshments. Local artists kept the music playing, while an impressive variety of crafts tempted shoppers looking for bargains on beautifully hand-crafted items. The displays were set up in the renovated history room.
The children were not forgotten. There was face painting, and of course, plenty of books to curl up with and read in a comfortable spot. Speaking of books, a trip upstairs was worth the climb, as there were great deals available at the used book sale.
Visitors with questions about Canaseraga history were not disappointed either. Burns historian Chris Green was seen enjoying a big piece of cake, but he was ready and willing to help anyone who stopped by his office looking for assistance.
"It has been a very good turnout. I'm very pleased," commented Kathie Sleight, the library director.
The hard work that went into making the day a big success was apparent, so offer a thank you to library staff, the Friends of the Library, volunteers and community supporters when you see them around town.
And the fun is not quite over. The arts and crafts show will continue through March 8 during regular library hours.
