FRIENDSHIP — When Webster Christian finally got its offense going, Friendship got enough clutch baskets and free throws to keep its season alive.
Haley Braun scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Liz Jablonski had 12 of her 15 points in the second half as No. 8 Friendship advanced to the Section V, Class D2 quarterfinals with a 47-38 win over No. 9 Webster Christian on Tuesday.
Webster Christian (6-11) had only 17 points through three quarters, but came alive in the fourth quarter ignited by three 3-pointers from Bonnie Parrotta.
"There were three or four girls scoring in double figures for them so we tried to do a 3-2 defense and spread out the court to prevent the outside shooting," said Friendship coach Deb Kane. "I was impressed with our defense and I think we moved the ball better on offense, too."
Of course, Friendship (9-10) also got its offense going in the fourth and helped put the game away at the foul line.
Jablonski went 9-of-10 from the line for the game and connected on all six of her free throws shots in the fourth quarter. Braun had eight points in the fourth quarter and 10 in the second half.
"Instead of living and dying by the 3, we had some good inside shooting," said Kane.
Jablonski also had six steals and Huntyr Roberts added eight points and eight rebounds for Friendship, which will play No. 1 Lima Christian (16-2) 7 p.m. Friday with a spot in the semifinals on the line.
Brenna Cahill led Webster Christian with 15 points and Parrotta scored all nine of her points in the fourth quarter.
Friendship led by as much as eight in the first half and used a 12-0 run in the third quarter to extend its lead to 12. The Lady Eagles then led by 13 early in the fourth and Webster Christian could only get as close as seven despite scoring 21 fourth-quarter points.
Cherish Pierce grabbed five rebounds for Friendship.
