County Administrator Mitchell M. Alger apologized for conduct which led to his arrest Thursday by Wellsville police.
The statement by Alger’s family was included today in a statement by Allegany County Board of Legislators Chairman Curt Crandall:
“As chairman of the Allegany County Board of Legislators, I have been in continual contact with the family of Mitchell M. Alger, county administrator, who has been on sick leave since being charged Feb. 13 with driving while intoxicated. As part of that contact, his family has released the following statement from Mr. Alger: ‘I would like to apologize to the County Legislature and residents of Allegany County for my recent actions which led to my arrest. I recognize that I made a serious mistake and I am currently in the process of taking the necessary steps to ensure that this will never happen again.’
“A Committee of the Whole meeting has been scheduled to take place Monday, Feb. 24, to update the Board of Legislators on Mr. Alger's process and current status. As previously stated, the County Administrative Team is handling all tasks and duties of the County Administrator while Mr. Alger is on sick leave,”?Crandall said in the statement. “We will share further developments with the public when they become available.”
Alger has also been charged with driving with a blood-alcohol content of .08 percent or greater and aggravated driving while intoxicated.
