Mary A. Tyrrell, 76, passed away at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital on January 27, 2014 with her devoted husband by her side.
Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at St. Michael's Church, Liberty St., Penn Yan. The Rev. Peter Clifford will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make memorial donations in Mary's name to St. Michael's Church Religious Education Dept., 212 Keuka St., Penn Yan, NY 14527 or to the Alzheimer's Assoc., 435 E. Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY 14620.
Mary was born on June 1, 1937 in Syracuse, to the late Vincent and Agnes (Byrne) Emperor. She graduated from Moravia High School in 1955 and married Louis J. Tyrrell on Sept. 8, 1956. A resident of Penn Yan for 42 years, she was employed by the Finger Lakes Association, the Bobbie Lou Shop and as the Religious Education Coordinator for St. Michael's Church.
Mary is survived by her husband of 57 years, Louis J. Tyrrell, her children; Maureen (William Jr.) Kays of Mexico, Patrick (Susan) Tyrrell of Cape Cod and Mary Ellen (Daniel) Hamm of Penn Yan. She was a loving Nana to Conor (Sylvia), Eamon, Liam and Katharine Kays, Hunter and Austin Tyrrell, Meredith Sittmann and Brendan and Mary Bridget Hamm and great grandson, Kaden Parkhurst. She is further survived by her sister, Kathleen Emperor of San Francisco, many cousins, and her best buddy, Bailey.
Mary's family is especially grateful for the kind and thoughtful care extended by the medical staff at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital during Mary's last days.
