Parent Forum on Underaged Drinking
The Yates County Coalition on Underage Drinking will hold a forum on March 31 in the Yates County Auditorium at 417 Liberty Street from 7 to 8: 30 p.m. The meeting is a follow-up to Penn Yan School District’s recent information al meeting. Steps parents can take to address alcohol and substance abuse will be discussed. Speakers will discuss topics including legal and mdical issues.

The 47th Annual Naples Creek Rainbow Trout Derby will be held April 1. Proceeds support the Naples Rotary Club Community Service Projects.

Penn Yan Library forum
You've probably heard something about the Penn Yan Public Library's building project, but do you know all you need to know?  Wondering what it'll do for you and your family?  What it'll look like?  What it'll cost? 
Well, the library — one of the area's major information sources — is prepared to inform you about its building project as well.  It's already hosted several public forums, but the weather wasn't cooperative for at least one of them; and so another has been scheduled to give you another opportunity to stop by and get the straight story.  You'll hear a presentation, see some pictures, and -- most importantly -- get your questions answered by people who are at the center of the project. 
The public forum is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1 at the library.

Prom Dress Fashion Show

Pastel Painting
Six session of pastel painting for adults will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays starting April 2 and continuing through May 7 at the Yates County Arts Center..
The Instructor, Barbara Doyle will help the class, which will be limited to eight participants, create a painting utilizing the layered techniques of pastel painting. Students will learn to create depth, capture light and shadow and color harmony in their piece.

Habitat for Humanity meets
­­The monthly meeting of the Yates County Habitat for Humanity will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 at the First Baptist Church in Penn Yan on Main Street. Applications for the 11th partner family are being reviewed.
Raffle tickets are also being sold for an antique oak roll top desk. The winning ticket will be drawn July 2.

Concert Band performances

Thursday, April 3
Spaghetti Dinner
There will be a spaghetti and meatball supper from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 3  at the Penn Yan Moose Club. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the American Cancer Society. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. Tickets will be available at the door.

Penn Yan Library Board
The Penn Yan Public Library board will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. at the library. Marty Roberts, PYPL Board President, will be presenting the Power Point Program on the Expansion Project at the Penn Yan Library on April.  Architects and an engineer will attend to address concerns raised about possible ground water problems and the tuck-under parking. The forum will begin at 7 p.m.

Making Ends Meet
Is now the time for you to begin a new spending plan, make a new set of goals, and/or figure out about credit and how you can get your credit report looking better?         
Making Ends Meet is the foundation course of a financial management program offered by Cooperative Extension. Dady Brothers
The Dady Brothers, who have performed at clubs, pubs and Festival all over the U.S., Canada and Ireland will perform at Penn Yan Middle School from 7 to 9 p.m. April 4. They will be joined by the Dundee Irish Dancers. Tickets will cost $10.

New York State Lifeguard Exam
The standard New York State lifeguard examinations will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday April 4 at the Watkins Glen High School. All exams are open to the public for potential new candidates and returning lifeguards.

Big Bad
Middlesex Valley School faculty and staff will precent Big Bad, the story of the Big Bad Wolf’s trial at 7 p.m. April 4 and 5 in the Middlesex Valley School’s Auditorium, 149 Foute 245, Rushville.  The Valley PTG will offer free ice cream sundaes in the school cafeteria after each performance. TIcket are $2 for students in grades K-5 and $3 for all others.

Middlesex  Heritage Group
Middlesex Heritage Group Quarterly Meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 5 at the Middlesex Town Hall.
The program includes a slide presentation, scenes of Vine Valley area;  also, from the collection of Bob DeVinney, aerial views, and Boy Scout troop activities (help needed identifying Scouts).  All are welcome.

Lawn ‘N Garden Day
Yates Cornell Cooperative Extension Annual Master Gardener’s Lawn ‘N Garden Day educational seminar will be held Saturday, April 5 in  the Yates County office building basement auditorium.  Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for late registration and home-baked refreshments. Three programs will run sequentially beginning at 9 a.m. and finish shortly after noon.  This year’s programs feature “Rain Gardens”, “Edible Landscaping” and “What’s New and Exciting with Perennials”. Rochester Boys Choir
The Rochester Boys Choir will perform at St. Thomas Church in Bath Saturday, April 5  at 7 p.m.
Formed in 2002, The Rochester Boys Choir is made up of 30 boys, ranging in age from 8 to 13. Under the direction of Dr. David Klement, the choir has performed throughout the United States and in Canada. Dr. Klement is the full-time Director of Music at Asbury First United Methodist Church in Rochester where he oversees a growing music program of eleven vocal and bell ensembles. He holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the Eastman School of Music, and has studied with Sir David Willcocks, Gerre Hancock, Donald Neuen, and Alfred Mann.

Beekeeping Workshop
Spencer Crest Nature Center will be hosting a Beekeeping Workshop led by Dr. Bud Amann, president of Corning Community College, on Tuesday April 15, 22, 29, and May 6, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. A field trip is scheduled for Saturday, May 10 from 9-11 a.m.
This informative and fun workshop on beginning beekeeping is designed to familiarize participants with basic information. Topics include the biology of the bee, bee pests and predators, honey, seasonal management, safety, and equipment used. The course consists of four, two-hour classroom and workshop sessions at Spencer Crest Nature Center and concludes with a two-hour field trip to an apiary so that live bee colonies can be examined and enjoyed.

Torrey Comprehensive Plan meeting
The Town of Torrey Planning Board will host a public hearing on the draft Comprehensive Plan.  This event will be held on Tuesday, April 22, at 7 p.m. at the Torrey Town Hall, located at 56 Geneva St., Dresden.  All interested citizens are encouraged to attend to learn about the Town’s proposed comprehensive plan.  The hearing will consist of a brief presentation on the plan and a question and a swer session for attendees. The Bellona Volunteer Fire Company will serve breakfast on the second and fourth Sundays beginning Jan. 13 and continuing through April 27. The menu will include pancakes, French toast, home fries, sausage, hame, eggs, toast and beverages. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Serving from 7 to 10 a.m.

Golf Tournament to benefit Community Center
A Golf Tournament to benefit the Community Center project will be held Monday, May 5 at Lakeside Country Club with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Lunch and registration will be held from noon to 1 p.m. The $65 per person entry fee includes 18 holes, cart, lunch, prizes and a bonus.
