The East Rochester Bombers varsity boys’ basketball program has been chosen to receive the Thomas Emmanuel Sportsmanship Award.
This award is given annually by the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials Rochester District Board #60, based on outstanding character and integrity displayed by a team’s players, coaches, and spectators. The honoree is chosen by Board 60 members and Section 5 officials.
Bomber head coach Mark Michele accepted the award Saturday, March 2 at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial after the Section 5 Class C finals.
“I am honored, gratified and appreciative of my players, who followed through on what we expect from Bomber student-athletes by demonstrating class and good sportsmanship toward opponents and officials,” Michele said.
“This recognition for our school is not only a result of the positive behavior of our players and coaches, but a reflection of our spirited spectators and the attention to detail by our supervisors. The school and community are proud of this acknowledgement.”
On the Bombers’ 2012-13 roster were sophomores Max Argento and Demarre Nelson; juniors Egzon Dervisholli, Zach Hauser, Phinehas Jacques, Brendan McDermott, Dan Medina, Tre Miller, Justin Reho, Rob Shaw, and Kendrick Watson; and seniors Austin Peterson, Kyle Walsh, and Reggie Walton.
The team’s assistant coaches are Darren Mack and Patrick Walsh, and Dan Marra is team manager.
